The most evocative places

History, sea and archaeology just steps from Il Gabbiano.

Archaeological Park of Cuma

Archaeological Park of Cuma

The first Greek colony of Magna Graecia and of the entire western Mediterranean, laid out from the very beginning on the Greek model in its spaces and systems of production. Here lies the Cave of the Sibyl, the trapezoidal tunnel from which, legend has it, the Cumaean Sibyl delivered her oracles.

The Campi Flegrei

The Campi Flegrei

An area rich in historical and archaeological treasures of great importance: the Acropolis of Cuma with the Cave of the Sibyl, the Piscina Mirabilis, the Castle of Baia. Countless destinations to explore on inspiring walks and excursions.

Piscina Mirabilis

Piscina Mirabilis

Partly carved into the tuff rock, it is known today as the cathedral of water for its majesty and architecture. It collected the water that flowed from the springs of Serino through the Augustan aqueduct, supplying the ships of the Classis Misenensis, the Roman naval fleet moored in the nearby port of Miseno.

Baia

Baia

The ancient Roman city of Baia, submerged over the centuries by the phenomenon of bradyseism, preserves the remains of domus and villas, baths, mosaics, columns and statues. Other finds from the submerged city are on display at the Aragonese Castle, home to the Archaeological Museum of the Campi Flegrei.

Pozzuoli

Pozzuoli

Set on the gulf of the same name in a volcanic area that includes a still-active volcano, the Solfatara. Not to be missed: the Temple of Serapis, the Anfiteatro Flavio, the Rione Terra. Typical of this area is bradyseism, the slow rising and sinking of the earth's crust.
